When a dark power rises, only a cursed prince can stand against it. War of the Black Tower Part Three is the final volume of the dark epic fantasy trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Jack Conner. Baleron is the youngest son of the king of Havensrike, a land eternally at war with the dark empire of Oslog to the south. Ruled by Gilgaroth, the legions of Oslog have continually striven to tear down the works of man and sweep the world in darkness. For eons the dark masses have awaited their lord's Chosen One, he who will be appointed by Gilgaroth to usher in the next age of shadow. That time is now. Baleron, though a womanizer and rogue, the black sheep of the royal family one step from being kicked out of the castle, is loyal to the kingdoms of the north and wants only to redeem himself in his father's eyes. But as Baleron leads his sister Rolenya's wedding party through the treacherous Aragst Mountains, they're set upon by the dark powers, and the thralls of Gilgaroth call out to Baleron in worship, calling him the Chosen One. This is just the beginning of Baleron's epic journey of action, romance, wonder and discovery in War of the Black Tower An Epic Fantasy.

The War of the Black Tower Part Three Jack Conner 9781501059094 Books

This book just grabs you and holds on tight. it is very well written and well paced. The protagonist, a "black sheep" Prince moves from the life of a aimless philanderer to a well intentioned, cursed ever suffering quasi hero. There is a very dark mood to this book, that none the less, is always on the verge of hopeful, just to be beaten down again.

I read all 3, one after another, and was just pulled in and held there.

You will not be disappointed!

The War of the Black Tower Part Three Jack Conner 9781501059094 Books Reviews

Kept me reading almost non-stop
Enjoyed them all.
Great. Had to get after the first.
Gets very repetative
Good book. Again, medium size around 250 pages, edited well and a good read for adults and older teens. The main character, Baleron continues to try and fight his curse that was given to him by the "spawn of hell" but he's losing. People he cares about continue to die. He feels responsible. The "evil ones" army lays siege to both of the  cities that protect the gateway to hell and "he" who was imprisoned there long ago. Baleron finds out that one of the people he loves is still alive but held captive by the "evil one". Now he must decide if he will be the "doom" of mankind, his father, the king,  the elves, and the world in order to save this person from the torments of hell. I will say this, the book goes pretty much how you'd want, with the exception of lots of people dying, however his love interest and the end are about what you'd expect without any real surprises. For me, this was good because I wasn't mad at the ending. I like books that don't leave me feeling mad or sad. This book does this and more!
Lot of action twist and turns.
Not sure who is on whos side.
Betrail back stabbing and plots.
All good
Well, it’s over and none too soon. It’s a story of confrontations, death, and torture. Again, I may mention stuff that could be considered spoilers.

First thing I must mention here is that I’m thoroughly annoyed that no where on the book cover does it give you the volume number. Sure, it’s in the description when buying, but once you have all three in your library, there’s no way to tell them apart. Having the same cover and title doesn’t bother me at all, but the volume number should be listed on the cover somewhere!

At this point in the story, I’m done with the Doom. Is so ridiculously obvious, yet everyone still lets him in their confidences, a nasty idiocy that started showing itself in book two. Now, it’s full blown lunacy! I’m sitting there rolling my eyes. Sure, give Baleron a sword and see what happens, you idiots.

That said, there are some very sad scenes in this book and it truly earns its place in dark fantasy. Still loved the gore. And despite my beefs with parts of the story, I really felt bad for Baleron and the stuff he had to endure.

The ending was drawn out. I was 70% in and feeling like at any moment it would be the final confrontation. Be prepared for a lengthy string of climatic events.

Also, I felt everything got a little redundant in the writing and story. After reading all three, it kinda seemed like we never moved anywhere. The characters never really changed, except maybe Baleron. Yet, do we really know? We never saw him placed back in a comfy home with all the old temptations to see if how he perceives himself in book three is actually who he turns into. Again, I never got the feeling we evolved completely. Furthermore, there was nothing new to the storyline. Same ol' good guys, same ol' bad guys. I didn't really learn anything new, there wasn't a lot of character growth, and nothing shocking. Well, one thing might be considered shocking, but I kinda saw it coming, so it didn't surprise me as much. I guess, in the end, I just wanted something a little more complex to separate each book.

So in conclusion to the overall series, they were incredibly fast reads (average of 250 pages each), and it was an entertaining story that helped me get through a rather lazy weekend.
